December 6

The member of Schools for Peace Association met with young people from two Warsaw schools, who volunteer at the Saint Cross parish. During the meeting a life and education of their peers in different countries were discussed. Moreover, the young volunteers sorted the clothes that had not been sent to Afghanistan (would be useless there due to weather and cultural conditions), and distributed it among the needy in Warsaw.

One złoty for Georgia

We start the collection of money for Georgian refugees, who were forced to flee from their homes in northern Georgia (mainly form the town of Gori, northern Abkhazia and  South Ossetia) because of the recent conflict with Russia. Now they stay at refugee camps in Tbilisi in very difficult conditions.

Our partner is a Georgian youth organization National Council of Youth Organizations of Georgia, which, together with other youth organizations, is actively involved in helping refugees (see the letter with request for support) . They concentrate their efforts on helping the youngest children, aged 1 month to 5 years. For money collected they buy  food (different kind), baby hygienic supplies and first aid medicaments. The funds collected during our campaign will be handed over to this organization so that they can continue their work.

Our partner in Poland is Akademia Jogi i Harmonijnego Rozwoju (Joga na Foksal), and public schools in different towns.

Let’s help our Georgian friends, every zloty counts…

50% of young Afghans are excluded from receiving an education

Although over 6 million children returned to Afghanistan’s classrooms a month ago at the start of a new school year, today that half of the war-torn country’s young people are excluded from receiving an education, the bulk of them girls.

Among those not enrolled in school are nomadic children, children with disabilities, street children and children living with their mothers in prison. However, the majority of those who are not receiving an education are girls (about 1.2 million).

The reasons why so many children are not in school include a lack of teachers, schools sited close to families, educational materials and, in some areas, security.
